Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Swing Handle Basket Sheffield 1903 Tc Jwc
Antique Edwardian sterling silver basket manufactured in 1903 by the silversmithing partnership T.C. & J.W. Carryer (Thomas Carryer & John William Carryer) in Sheffield, England. The basket is of a shaped-oval form, featuring a broad flared rim with intricate pierced openwork consisting of repeating scroll and foliate motifs. The interior edge of the rim is finished with a continuous applied silver beaded border. The central well of the basket is a polished silver surface, while the exterior border features embossed naturalistic decorations including floral clusters and scrolling leaves. A double-wire swing handle is attached to the sides via circular pivots, featuring a repeating bead-and-twist pattern. The entire piece is supported by a conforming oval pedestal foot. Four distinct hallmarks are struck on the interior of the rim: the maker’s mark "T.C J.W.C" within a shaped shield, the Sheffield crown town mark, the lion passant standard mark for sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter "l" corresponding to the year 1903. The silver surfaces exhibit a high-luster finish with minor surface wear consistent with the age of the metal. Approximate Dimensions & Weight:
