Albert MARQUET born in Bordeaux in 1875. He showed an early talent for drawing.
He attended the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1892, where he met Henri Matisse, six years his senior. At the end of 1893, he joined Gustave Moreau's class at the Beaux-Arts. There, he met Matisse and befriended Henri Manguin, Georges Rouault, Jules Flandrin and Charles Camoin, who became his most loyal friends. Alongside them, he embarked on the adventure of Fauvism, although he remained insensitive to the movement's abstract dimension.
