"Pavel Tchelitchew. Study For Phenomena. 1938"
Our drawing is a preparatory study for Phenomena, a 1938 painting held at the Tretyakov Gallery. Neo-Romanticism and Surrealism blend in the artist's world to create a highly personal style. Very famous in Russia and the United States, Tchelitchew offers us a sometimes postmodernist and anticipatory vision of the modern world. The drawing comes from the estate of Marie Tchelitchew, the artist's sister, and was subsequently donated to Tchelitchew's friends. The artist's stamp is on the back, visible when held up to the light.
