The artistGermaine Chardon, born Germaine Huet (1891 - 1980), was the daughter of Paul Gauguin,born of a relationship he had in 1890 with Juliette Henri Huet. She was a student at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where she studied with Frans Smeers. She chose Germaine Chardon as her pseudonym, and she liked to include a thistle design on some of her works (the thistle on the back of our painting).
