Louis XVI Style Table, After A Model By Weisweiller.
Rare and elegant coffee table inspired by the creations of the famous Parisian cabinetmaker Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820), master received in 1778 and supplier to the great aristocratic houses of the late 18th century.
This piece features a typically neoclassical architecture: richly ornamented belt with gilded bronzes decorated with garlands and rosettes, finely carved tapered base, joined by an openwork strut centered on a decorative basket. The workmanship of the bronzes and the balance of proportions are directly reminiscent of the prestigious models produced under the reign of Louis XVI.
The "Etruscan-style" taste and sober lines inspired by Antiquity are characteristic of Weisweiler's works, now held in the greatest international collections and regularly featured in Sotheby's prestige sales.
