Etching Louis Icart

Artist: Louis Icart

Original etching by Louis Icart ( 1888 - 1950 ), one of the most emblematic artists of the Art Deco period, entitled "Les Hortensias" or "Hydrangeas", created in 1929 in Paris.

This work, typical of Icart's glamorous, sensual style, features an elegant Parisian woman (his muse and wife Fanny Volmers) dressed in a flowing silk dress and large white straw hat. She is depicted languidly on a divan, surrounded by a cascade of sumptuous hydrangeas. The artist's signature play of chiaroscuro light beautifully highlights the white dress and lips outlined in red.

This is an etching and drypoint in grisaille with light color highlights.
The framing is more modern, custom-made to enhance the work. It is a modern frame in silvered wood with interlaced scrolls. The work bears the hand signature in the lower right and the words "Copyright 1929 by L. Icart Paris" in the upper right.
