Entrated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Avignon in 1896, Auguste Chabaud was taught by Pierre Grivolas. In 1899, he moved to Paris to continue his studies at the Académie Julian and École des Beaux-Arts, in the studio of Fernand Cormon (1845-1924). He met Henri Matisse and André Derain. His parents' wine estate suffered a crisis in 1900, forcing Auguste Chabaud to return to the South of France.
