Superb decorative dish on heel in enameled porcelain by Taxile Doat, signed, dated 1900 and located Sèvres.
The particularly refined decoration is executed using the famous paste-on-paste technique, the artist's specialty. It features six green-background cartouches decorated with nude female figures accompanied by children in light white relief, alternating with stylized foliage motifs.
The central basin is enriched with a brown and green geometric decoration of Renaissance and Art Nouveau inspiration on an ivory-beige background.
This work perfectly illustrates Taxile Doat's technical mastery and decorative sensibility at the end of the 19th century, in the great tradition of Sèvres ceramic research.

Artist biography
Taxile Doat (1851-1939) was one of the greatest French ceramists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he joined the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres in 1877, where he developed an exceptional mastery of ceramic techniques, notably paste-on-paste.
Inspired by Chinese and Japanese production as much as by European tradition, he distinguished himself with works of great decorative finesse combining flamed enamels, stoneware, porcelain and delicate reliefs. His creations were regularly exhibited at World's Fairs, where they met with great critical success.
Taxile Doat also played a major role in the renewal of Art Nouveau ceramics. In 1909, he moved to the United States to teach at the University City of Saint Louis, helping to disseminate French high ceramics techniques among American artists.
Today, his works can be found in prestigious public and private collections, including the Musée de Sèvres and several international museums specializing in the decorative arts.
