About 1840. Miniature Portrait Of A High School Student
This young man, on the cusp of adulthood, had the good fortune to be painted by a talented miniaturist, who succeeded in breathing life into this face in a very small format. Unfortunately, he didn't sign it, but it's still a remarkable feat.
Far from the somewhat conventional work of the early 19th century, we sense a romantic look, typical of the mid-19th century.
The portrait is set in an attractive laurelled gold frame, suggesting that it may have been made to celebrate a diploma, such as the baccalaureate, which at the time was haloed with prestige.
All in very good condition.
Dimensions of the miniature 5.5 cm x 4.5 cm
