Christ XVII Eme - Polychrome Wood
Carved and polychromed wooden Christ on the cross, work from the XVIIᵉ century.
Remains of old polychromy, combined with a beautiful patina of time, underline all the authenticity of this devotional work.
Christ is presented without his arms, an absence that bears witness to the centuries through which the object has passed. In ancient sacred art, a sculpture remained an object of worship and respect even when damaged.
The sculptural work preserves fine details in the treatment of the torso, face and drapery, typical of religious productions of the XVIIᵉ period.
Good general state of preservation considering the period, with wear and misses consistent with its age.
