Very beautiful oil on canvas by Jacques OURTAL (1868-1962) representing the portrait of the mother of Abbot Henri Deveze of Carcassonne. A brilliant university researcher and important figure in the region. Oil on canvas signed lower right and dated 1919. Beautiful touch, very well painted painting. Jacques OURTAL studied in Toulouse, then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. He returned to settle in his native region of Aude, which did not prevent him from being regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and from seeing some of his paintings join prestigious private collections including that of President JF Kennedy in the United States or Winston Churchill in England. Specialist in large decorative compositions with historical or religious themes as well as portraits, which were very successful.
