Fossil Spinosaurus Tooth – Upper Cretaceous Period

The spinosaur, or Spinosaurus, was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs ever to have lived on Earth. It lived around 95 million years ago, mainly in what is now North Africa. Recognizable by the large sail on its back and its long crocodile-like snout, it was probably semi-aquatic and spent much of its time in rivers hunting giant fish.

Unlike the famous Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus was better adapted for swimming than for running. Scientists even believe it may have been the first known dinosaur to have led a largely aquatic lifestyle.

This tooth specimen stands out for its exceptional dimensions. The enamel displays a characteristic dark patina, evidence of the fossil’s mineralization process.
