Jeanne Philiberte Ledoux ( Attributed to ) 1767-1840 "Portrait d'une jeune femme"
Oil on canvas in perfect condition, presented in a beautiful gilded frame
French artist of the late 18th or early 19th century
She was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Greuze ,( 1725-1805 ) and adopted a style very close to his.
She exhibited for the 1st time at the Salon de 1793 and continued to exhibit regularly until the Salon de Douai in 1826
She quickly abandoned genre scenes, dear to her master Greuze, for portraits and miniatures.
Never having exhibited portraits of illustrious figures, although some of her paintings are on display in numerous French and American museums, most of her works have remained with the descendants of these patrons, making it difficult to identify her work
especially as she rarely signed or dated her canvases, which explains why many of them have been wrongly attributed to Jean-Baptiste Greuze
