Pair Of Imari Vases - Japan

An elegant pair of Japanese Imari vases with lids, dating from the 19th century (late Edo or Meiji period). Crafted from glazed porcelain, they feature a rounded shape with a domed lid topped by a bulbous knob.
The decoration, typical of the Imari-Arita style, is executed in a rich and vibrant palette of cobalt blue underglaze, with iron red and gold applied overglaze. The ornamental motifs are densely distributed: floral, geometric, and stylized landscape motifs combine harmoniously in a succession of panels and band decorations. The upper and lower parts of the vases are framed by ornamental bands featuring stylized wave and Greek fret motifs.
The decoration is distinguished by the refinement of its details and the quality of its execution, reflecting the influence of Eastern aesthetics intended for the European market as well. These vases are not only objects of decorative art but also testaments to the great Japanese ceramic tradition.
