Ancient religious subject in patinated terracotta signed Richard Aurili.
Christ is depicted with his head bowed during the final moments of his passion.
The terra cotta has a beautiful nuanced brown patina, reinforcing the depth of the reliefs and the presence of the work.
The bust rests on its pedestal. The reverse bears the signature "R. Aurili" as well as the model number 1071.
Under the base is preserved an old label from the Ragot store in Lille.
Very good overall condition with only a discreet chip to a crown spine.

Richard Aurili (1864-1943), also known as Riccardo Aurili, was an Italian sculptor born in Tuscany and active between Italy, Belgium and France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Trained in Florence, he developed a highly personal style combining naturalism, symbolism and Art Nouveau influences. He created female busts, mythological subjects, religious works and decorative sculptures edited in terra cotta, regula or patinated plaster. .
