Surprising Monastic Work, 18th Century: The Holy Family Under Glass.
Sory, No airmail export,
no shipping.
Incredible convent work from the 18th century, with very richly gilded and painted paper scrollwork forming a delicate, tightly woven lace pattern, with a rectangular border. Four relics are set at the cardinal points.
At the center, within an oval medallion, a parchment cut-out (canivet) painting represents the Holy Family gathered… (there is even a dog!).
Originally, the whole piece rested on colored silk, probably framed in this period key frame from the Louis XIV or Régence era. A previous owner had the frame re-gilded and placed the entire piece between two panes of glass (the first one is antique), which creates a particularly striking optical effect and allows the artwork to be viewed against a dark or transparent background.
Dimensions: 31 cm x 26 cm.
Condition: good overall condition, with of course minor imperfections here and there, nothing serious.
The issue will be transport, which I do not intend to entrust to any company under my responsibility.
But, thank God, everything works out.
Available for immediate purchase by credit card or PayPal.
