Important bronze group with brown patina , representing a deer family , composed of a bellowing stag , a doe and their fawn , by sculptor Hippolyte Heizler in collaboration with sculptor Charles Valton .
The stag rests high on a trunk , he is in full bellow , the work highlights the majestic and imposing aspect of the stag , which contrasts with the maternal gentleness of the doe and her fawn .
Signature by sculptor "HEIZLER" in recess , on the naturalistic terrace , richly chased and ornate , with foliage decoration .
Signature by sculptor "C.VALTON" in recess , on the trunk .
Antique edition sculpture , period second part of the XIX th century .
Perfect state of preservation and patina .

Hippolyte Heizler (1828-1871)

Hippolyte Heizler , was a famous French animal sculptor , born in Paris on April 19, 1828 .
H.Heizler was the son of sculptor Clément-Bernard-Hippolyte and his wife Julie Lecourt .

Student of sculptor Justin Lequien , he debuted at the 1846 Salon and was awarded the "HonorableMedal" in 1852 .
He collaborated anonymously on the decoration of the Louvre , the Tuileries and the Paris Opera .
As early as 1846 , he set up his Atelier at 182 . rue de Charonne , in Paris .
In 1868 , his Atelier was located at 56 . rue Oberkampf .

During the 1870 siege of Paris , he contracted acute bronchitis and died of the consequences of this illness , on October 20 , 1871 .
His last works were exhibited at the 1872 Salon , after his death .

CHARLES VALTON (1851-1918)

Charles Valton , was a famous French animal sculptor , born January 26 , 1851 .

Charles Valton was born in Pau , but grew up in Paris , where he regularly frequented the Jardin des Plantes .
Admitted to the School of Fine-Arts in Paris , he studied under Antoine-Louis Barye , Emmanuel Fremiet and Hippolyte Heizler , themselves animal sculptors .

C. Valton devoted his entire career to animal sculpture , specializing in bronzes of great finesse .
From 1868 to 1914 , Charles Valton produced more than 70 animal models , some in collaboration with sculptors of his time , notably Hippolyte Heizler .
His work quickly attracted attention .
He regularly exhibited at the Salon of French Artists , where his works were appreciated for their precision and realism .
He was appointed professor of sculpture at the Germain Pilon School in Paris , in 1883 .

Charles Valton died on May 21 , 1918 in Chinon .
