Watercolour Of Honfleur Normandy By Georges Joubin 1930-40
Artist: Georges Joubin
Watercolour by Georges Joubin between 1930-40 of Honfleur, Normandy coast.
Georges Joubin was a notable figure on the Parisian art scene in the early to mid-20th century. He is often associated with the "École de Paris" and was one of the founders of the Salon des Tuileries. In 1912, he settled permanently in Montmartre. He lived in the "city of painters" near the Bateau-Lavoir district and remained there for over 70 years until his death in 1983.
Joubin's work is characterized by a post-impressionist style. He frequently painted urban scenes of Paris (especially Montmartre), landscapes and harbour scenes. Port scenes were a recurring theme, often capturing the light and movement of coastal towns in Normandy or Brittany. He frequently painted the ports of Douarnenez, Honfleur, Bernières and the island of Ouessant.
He often used simplified, bold forms, as well as a colour palette that was both discreet and expressive. Small tear on left margin
