An Indienne Mantling Printed In The Plate - Manufacture d'Alsace Ou Suisse Circa 1810
Circa 1800-1810
Manufacture Alsace or Suisse
Rare quilted polychrome Indienne lambrequin dating from the very early 19th century. Probably here an element of wall slope at Baldaquin level, fitted with its period brass braid and rings for hanging. Large naturalistic decoration with flowering bouquets presented in large medallions framed by interlaced leaf stems. Printed on cotton using a woodblock technique with a high ratio of seven colors, some of which are superimposed to obtain nine different tones in total. An identical canvas is listed (ref 11997) at the Musée d'Impression sur Etoffes in Mulhouse. This type of decoration is similar to that of the Production de Neuchâtel in Switzerland, but also to that of Beautiran, where the famous printer Meillier settled after leaving Switzerland. No flaws other than slight soiling on the reverse side of the canvas. Vibrant colors, without holes or stains. Very good color and condition. For information, we also own the matching canopy tower, which is the subject of a separate sale.
Dimensions: 180 cm long by 78 cm high.
