Sigrist Large Painting Provencal Landscape Mont Ventoux Sheepfold Malaucène
Mont Ventoux Malaucène bergerie paysage provençal Edmond Sigrist
Large Provencal landscape depicting Mont Ventoux as seen from the outskirts of Malaucène, with a sheepfold and pruned trees typical of the southern rural landscape in the foreground. The composition is organized in successive, highly legible planes, from the warm, vegetal ground to the relief of the Ventoux, treated as colored masses. The whole gives off a calm atmosphere, bathed in dry light, characteristic of Provence landscapes.
Signed by Edmond Sigrist (1882-1947), a French painter, engraver and illustrator who exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne. The signature "Sigrist" on the lower right and the handwritten inscription on the reverse mention "Malaucène - le Mont Ventoux"
