Cast Bronze Buddha. Southeast Asia. 17th Century Or Earlier.
The deity is in lost-wax bronze. There are 2 important features that should enable this Buddha to be precisely located and dated. Firstly, the eyes, whose eyelids are glued together to form a single pair, rendering the Buddha blind. It's likely that this represents Buddha meditating in total isolation from the world. The second feature is the unusually high relief of the nipples. Southeast Asian work, Siam or Laos, 17th century or earlier. Very fine patina. Height: 315mm. The Ushnisha flame is missing
