The sculpture depicts this handsome naked athletesaluting with arms outstretched. This is the Olympic salute chosen byPierre de Coubertin for the Olympic Games in the 1920s,the salute with the right arm folded and stretched out to the side, different from thethe Roman salute, where the arm remains straight. Produced in 1924 for thefor the Paris Olympic Games, this work was created by painterpainter, draughtsman and sculptor Maurice Guiraud Rivière.
Themonumental model was commissioned by the Seine department in1924 and delivered in 1936, then deposited at the Adolphe Chéron stadium inSaint-Maur-Des-Fossés.
