Alhambra Vase, Faïenceries De Malicorne Circa 1931.
Artist: Roger François
First model created by Roger François for the Malicorne earthenware factory.
At the age of 21, he took over artistic direction of the faience factory, which had been bought by his father to give his son a career.
He took on his responsibilities with a unique Art Deco style, the fruit of many years of apprenticeship with great names. He created different models and a catalog raisonné to present them. If anyone stood out from the crowd, it was him. Inspired by both the Alhambra and Théodore Deck's interpretations, the result is a one-of-a-kind model. The work of a young prodigy who, with a symbolic first piece, would go on to write a major work for his career.
Finally, the signature itself is as strong as its artistic imprint: "Son grès son art. Malicorne. Fire is our master.
