18th Century Porcelain Milk Jug Or Creamer
An 18th-century porcelain milk jug, most likely a Sèvres piece but lacking the Sèvres mark—perhaps due to a minor flaw caused by the firing process on one of the legs, visible only from the inside. Since Sèvres ruthlessly rejects any piece that is not perfect, this is most certainly one of those rejected items. The body of this tripod is in a shade known as “gros bleu” with a gold-bordered reserve depicting various musical instruments placed on a table amidst flowers. The inner rim is decorated with a gold scalloped border in the Vincennes style. It dates from the 18th century. Another small chip on the inside, starting from the top, should also be noted (see photos).
