Large Covered Earthenware Tureen And Display Stand - Polychrome Decoration
Beautiful and elegant covered tureen of contoured form, resting on its matching display stand, in fine earthenware with polychrome decoration known as "grotesque" in the taste of productions from Moustiers or the South of France in the 18th century.
The set features a delicately hand-painted decoration of stylized characters, fantastical animals, insects and foliate scrolls, arranged on mounds, in an airy composition typical of Bérain or "grotesque" inspired decor.
The lid is topped by a decorated knob-shaped grip, and animated with figured scenes.
The scalloped wing is highlighted with an elegant ochre-yellow fillet.
