Avignon 1740-1760 , 8 +8 Solid Silver Flatware, Joseph Vilhet Or Jean Baptiste Vinay
Artist: Jean Baptiste Vinay Ou Joseph Vilhet
Extremely rare set of eight solid silver forks and eight table spoons from the Louis XV period. They bear the clearly legible hallmarks of the city of Avignon and of a master silversmith JV, well listed but not attributed with certainty. Two attributions are possible, as two contemporary silversmiths share the same initials, Jean Baptiste Vinay or Joseph Vilhet. In the absence of inscription plates or archives, the mystery remains. What is certain is that the craftsman in question was a man of great talent, as his works published in Mr. Cassan's book are all of exceptional quality.
The same is true of our cutlery, which weighs almost 100 grams per piece, i.e. 1400 grams overall. The tines of the forks are in a remarkable state of preservation.
