M. Forgeois (born 1929) Bocquel Founder Large Gilded Bronze Sculpture 1976
Artist: Michèle Forgeois (1929-2000)
Rare free-form polished gilded bronze sculpture by Michèle FORGEOIS (1929-2000), a committed artist belonging to the New School of Paris, who carried out several official commissions for public spaces. Handwritten signature engraved by the artist, interesting copy numbered 1/3 and dated 1976, stamped by the foundry BOCQUEL (art foundry having worked closely with famous artists such as César, Arman, Magritte, Garouste & Bonetti, Tobiasse, Kepling etc.). Dimensions: 42 cm high (36 cm excluding base) X 22 cm wide / Weight: 15 kgs. Beautiful free-form abstract composition in thick, polished gilded bronze, with a sensual biomorphic form blending figuration and abstraction. The work seems to absorb light, drawing power and strength from it in a superb display of dynamism and robustness. Original quadrangular base in black lacquered melamine (wear and chips in the corners)
This sculpture perfectly embraces the plastic characteristics of the work carried out by Michèle Forgeois (1929-2000) throughout her career: direct carving, the interplay of volumes, solids and voids, harmonious lines. The artist has left her mark on public collections, collaborating with the Banque de France in Marne la Vallée and the Archives départementales in Périgueux. At Bercy, the stele in tribute to Berty Albrecht (1893-1943), created in 1984 and restored in 2018, remains the property of the Centre national des arts plastiques. The monumental tribute to Berty Albrecht has become a permanent fixture in the city's public space, a unique artistic representation of a woman celebrated and recognized as a historical and civic actress.
