Sibert: Pair Of Solid Silver Flambeaux Aix 1746 Decorated With Mascarons Armoiries

Extremely rare pair of solid silver Flambeaux from Aix-en-Provence, Louis XV period, resting on octagonal bases with shafts, nodes and binnacles. Very rich chased decoration with foliage scrolls, shells, squares and magnificent Mascarons at the corners of the upper nodes. Bases engraved with the coat of arms of the De TIBUTIS or TRIBUTIIS family (Banded Argent and Gules, of six pieces; on a chief of azure, a golden sun) established in Genoa, Comtat-Venaissin and Provence, several members of which were councillors at the Parlement de Provence in the 17th century (Thanks to Mr. Sanchez, Heraldic Expert, for identification). Pair of Flambeaux very well hallmarked with Poinçons de Charge for AIX 1744-50, Poinçons de Maison Commune for AIX 1746 and Poinçons du Maître Orfèvre Christophe II SIBERT received in c. 1687 date at which his father Christophe I resigned with the Mint in order to leave the place to his son. Elected Juré-Garde des Orfèvres Aixois in 1696 and 1724. Complete with its original bobèches with chased decoration and traces of Sibert's hallmark (see photo). Extremely rare pair of Louis XV-period Aixoise Flambeaux in very good condition and well hallmarked, with exceptional chasing quality (nothing of this quality listed in Mr. Raymond Jourdan-Barry's reference book on the silversmiths of the Généralité d'Aix en Provence), micro-scratches from use. For discerning collectors and museum-quality given its great rarity ....
