Frederick I Of Sweden And His Royal Line, Attributed To Nicolas Lafrensen, Sweden 18th Century
A rare and important 18th-century gouache on paper depicting a royal genealogy centered on the portrait of Frederick I of Sweden (1676-1751), identified by the inscription "F.I. R.S.". The sovereign is depicted in armor under the three-crown mantle, surrounded by twelve miniature medallions of his predecessors, including Gustavus I Vasa and Charles XII. This courtly work, whose finesse of execution makes it possible to compare it with the work of Nicolas Lafrensen or his workshop, is part of a prestigious iconography, a copy of which is preserved in the Stockholm Museum. Presented under its antique glass in its period Swedish wood and gilded stucco frame with pearl decoration and shell pediment, the piece has retained its original mounting on the reverse with resin panel and old framing papers, guaranteeing the integrity of this object of high historical curiosity.
