Antique Manchu Silk Embroidered Jacket, China, Qing Dynasty (late 19th – Early 20th Century)
A beautiful Manchu women’s jacket (Chenyi), made of black silk satin, lined with turquoise silk, and adorned with rich polychrome embroidered decorations, hand-crafted with silk threads of extraordinary fineness.
The neckline, sleeves, and edges are decorated with floral motifs, birds, butterflies, and figurative scenes, framed by stylized cloud and scroll patterns, symbols of prosperity and longevity.
The ivory-colored embroidered cuffs depict landscapes and literary instruments, typical of women’s clothing from the late Qing Dynasty.
This type of straight tunic, with wide sleeves and refined decorations, belonged to women of high rank and was worn on the occasion of important ceremonies and receptions.

The quality of the embroidery, the harmony of the colors, and the richness of the iconography attest to high-level workshop craftsmanship, intended for the urban elite or the Manchu court.
Condition: excellent. The embroidery is perfectly preserved, with vivid and sharp colors, showing no signs of wear. The only minor flaws are visible on the very thin, almost impalpable textured silk lining.
