Autochrome
Very beautiful autochrome of Pink Flamingo flowers in a vase circa 1920.
Format 9x 12 cm
The flower called "pink flamingo" is actually Anthurium andreanum, highly prized for its heart-shaped flowers, often pink, red or white. It is native to tropical rainforests.
Autochrome is particularly interesting for a floral subject because it captures the delicacy and variety of flower colors, with a unique, almost painterly rendering, reminiscent of Impressionist painting.
"It's not a snapshot, but the reproduction of a frozen and composed moment, illuminated by an impression, a sensation of color generated by multiple touches of pigment shaped by the brush of light" Institut Lumière.
