Hourglass Coffee Grinder High Period Louis XIV 14 XVII - XVIII 17 18th Century Wrought Iron

Wrought-iron "hourglass" or "funnel" coffee mill with double inverted cone - horizontal crank handle with wooden ball.

In the Age of Enlightenment, Diderot and d'Alembert's ambition was to bring existing knowledge within everyone's reach. It was against this backdrop that author Jacques-Francois Demachy published L'art du distillateur liquoriste in 1775. In this work, the author describes the coffee-making process and depicts in Plate 11 the "double box and horizontal crank" mill, similar to this one.
