The triumph of Galatea or Amphitrite, allegory in the style of the woodwork in Marie-Antoinette's silver boudoir at the Château de Fontainebleau. These paintings of the woodwork were themselves inspired by Pompeian frescoes.

In Greek mythology, the beautiful Galatea fell in love with the shepherd Acis, remaining deaf to the advances of the Cyclops Polyphemus, who, after discovering the two lovers together, killed Acis with a huge boulder.
