Contemporary Art From The 20th Christ To Jean Martin's Links

I am honored today to present for sale this spectacular oil on canvas by the self-taught Lyonnais painter Jean MARTIN, born in 1911 and deceased in 1996 (aged 85). He was an expressionist painter, and museums have paid tribute to him with a retrospective.
This painting was part of our company's collections, and we acquired it from Galerie Georges at the corner of rue Auguste Comte and rue Franklin.
This painting measures 1m 95 cm x 96 cm including rod. I think it should end up in a museum to complete the collection donated by his widow.
In the lower part of the painting, you can feel the influence of ROUAULT (1871-1953, aged 87).
The son of a factory worker, he was born in Lyon's industrial district of Vaise. He was introduced to painting by Lucien FECHANT, secretary of the Salon du Sud EST, where he was first exhibited, and in his early years, he made friends with Jean CONTY and sculptor Georges SALENDRE, who taught him direct carving and played a decisive role in his stylistic orientation.
During the interwar period, Jean MARTIN developed a realistic style marked by 16th-century German and Belgian expressionism.
In 1958, he took part in the exhibition of the New Generation group organized by critic Henri HERAUT.
Jean MARTIN settled in Paris in 1946 and created numerous costumes for the theater. With his wife, he created a gallery D'Art et traditions Chrétienne Rue Sulpice participating in the revival of Sacred Art, hence our painting.
