Large Moulded Zinc Heraldic Medallion, Second Empire Civic Emblem, About 1850
A rare and spectacular large-format heraldic medallion in embossed and painted cast zinc, featuring a shield with a cross surmounted by a mural crown, inscribed within a wreath of laurel and oak, topped by a star.
The ornamental vocabulary - mural crown, plant trophy, star and symmetrical composition - recalls the official decorations of the Napoleon III period.
Discovered in a former prestigious property in Sommières in the Gard region, this object could be related to a former flag bearer or communal emblem, possibly linked to local historical iconography.
Preserved with its antique wooden back stand and original fastenings.
Superb patina, old repaints, authentic wear and great poetry of the object.
Singular piece between heraldic art, architectural decoration and historical curiosity.
