Ivan IVANOFF (1925-2005), painter, sculptor, and wrought iron artist, inventor, and musician, was born in Bulgaria (his father was a blacksmith there). He settled in Seillans, a hilltop village in the Haut-Var region, listed among the most beautiful villages in France in the 1970s, and is buried in the village cemetery. His "sculptural" period in Seillans is represented by three of his works exhibited in the village (The Scorpionfish, The Dragon or The Fabulous Beast, and a wrought iron fresco called "The 7 Ideograms" installed on the exterior walls of the church). His sculptures are created from recycled materials and tools.
