Provenance
Sculpture by Igor Mitoraj (1944–2014), a Polish-born artist active on the international art scene in the late 20th century. This work belongs to his well-known series of fragmented mythological torsos, a central theme in his oeuvre. Numbered example A 808 / 1000, accompanied by its original hand-signed certificate of authenticity, dated 1988.

Description
This truncated male torso titled Perseus reflects Mitoraj’s distinctive approach, merging classical inspiration with a modern sculptural language. The figure, deliberately deprived of head and limbs, presents an idealized anatomy with balanced and harmonious volumes. The surface is marked by geometric incisions and recessed elements, evoking scars, fractures, or archaeological remains. The slightly tilted posture enhances the expressive character of the piece. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular travertine base, whose natural texture contrasts with the bronze surface.

Technique and materials
Bronze with a green patina, achieved through controlled oxidation, giving the surface tonal depth and subtle irregularity. High-quality casting with refined modelling. The sculpture is mounted on a solid travertine base. Incised signature “Mitoraj” and stamped numbering visible.

Dating
Edition from 1988, as confirmed by the certificate of authenticity. This period corresponds to the mature phase of Mitoraj’s production, when his mythological torsos gained international recognition.

Condition
Very good overall condition. Even patina with natural tonal variations. No significant damage. Travertine base in good condition, with minor natural imperfections typical of the material. Original certificate preserved.

Function and display
A collector’s piece suited for both contemporary and classical interiors. Ideal for display on a console, desk or showcase, either as a standalone artwork or in dialogue with other modern sculptures.

Dimensions
height – 48.5 cm
