2-leaf Sideboard, Transitional Period, 18th Century
Rare and elegant Transition period sideboard, a French work from the second half of the 18th century, finely illustrating the transition from the Louis XV style to the neoclassical Louis XVI taste.
This piece of furniture opens with two leaves , richly adorned with geometric marquetry in precious wood frieze, centered on remarkable panels featuring flowering vases treated in marquetry of different species of wood, in warm, contrasting shades.
These reserves are framed by stylized green-stained Wood veneer fillets and grecques, heralding the Louis XVI decorative repertoire.
The top is topped by its Breche d'Alep molded marble, with natural decoration, perfectly fitted, bringing elegance and functionality to the ensemble.
The finely chased gilded bronze trim emphasizes the lines of the piece: corner falls with plant decoration, sabots enveloping the curved legs, as well as a central ornament on the front.
Lock escutcheons and fittings contribute to the overall harmony.
The solid wood interior opens onto a storage space organized around a shelf, testifying to the furniture's utilitarian vocation while retaining a beautiful authenticity.
The canted uprights and curved legs, still imbued with the Louis XV style, contrast subtly with the rigor of the frames and geometric motifs, characteristic of the Transition period.
Very good condition, with a warm antique patina. Restorations due to use and maintenance.
