Very small truncated cone-shaped pewter DINNER HOLDER, with quarter-round throat and center grip lid. It has a swinging handle with cherub-head attachments.
Clear hallmark of Claude François BOUVIER active from 1835: crowned hammer / BOUVIER À CLAMECY.
Height at throat: 8 cm.

This is the charming and rare smallest size in the series of these Clamecy dinnerware holders.
The shapes of these dinner-holders are variable, being truncated conical in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou...; the handle attachments, depending on the region, feature cherubs' heads, rosettes, fleurons, human masks...etc. Among the BOUVIER family in CLAMECY, there are slight variations in the number of loops of hair on the cherubs' heads.
