Giuseppe Carli (1915-1999), Forcola, Oarlock In Walnut
Forcola in Italian means "fork" and here refers to the support that gondoliers use to hold the oars of their boats. More commonly known as oarlocks, these objects, carved from walnut and patinated by time, were transformed by Giuseppe Carli into sculptures in their own right.
Oarlocks are made to fit the gondolier's build and rowing style. They are therefore personal, custom-made instruments. No two are alike, making each oarlock a unique work of art.
Our oarlock, signed by Giuseppe Carli, is mounted on a base and in perfect condition.
