Elegant Louis XVI-style gilded bronze clock - Napoleon III period
Charming and elegant Louis XVI-style clock, made in the Napoleon III period, entirely in fine-chased and gilded bronze, offering a beautiful decorative presence and great elegance.
The clock adopts a classical architecture inspired by the neoclassical vocabulary of the late XVIIIᵉ century. The front is centered by a white enamel circular dial with Arabic numerals, embellished with finely openworked hands and surrounded by a delicately crafted gilt bronze lantern.
The case is richly decorated with friezes of water leaves, scrolls and finely chased floral motifs, testifying to meticulous workmanship and pretty quality of execution. The sides are enlivened by elegant volutes, bringing relief and movement to the whole.
The top is crowned by an antique handled bearer, framed by decorative signs, emblematic elements of the Louis XVI style inspired by Antiquity. The base, adorned with a frieze of foliage, rests on four small turned feet in gilded bronze, giving the clock a harmonious, balanced silhouette.
This clock features a particularly elegant classical decoration, representative of the taste for the Louis XVI style revived under the Second Empire. Through the quality of its bronzes and the richness of its ornamentation, it constitutes a very fine decorative piece, ideal to complete a refined interior or accompany antique furniture.
The set is in good general state of preservation.
