Silver-plated Tabletop By Victor Saglier, 19th Century.
Artist: Victor Saglier
A tabletop set consisting of three elements forming a modular unit, made in silver-plated metal by the Parisian silversmith Victor Saglier (1809-1894), whose hallmark is present.
A silversmith established in Paris in the 19th century, Victor Saglier headed an important firm producing high-quality silverware in both the classical and fashionable styles of his day. On his death, the company was taken over by his relatives under the name Saglier Frères, continuing production into the first half of the 20th century.
The ensemble adopts an elegant chantournée form and is organized around a decor borrowed from neoclassical vocabulary, directly inspired by the Louis XVI repertoire.
A frieze of laurel leaves punctuated by small bays, punctuated by knotted ribbons, runs around the contours. This decoration is punctually relayed by similarly knotted rushes, creating a coherent and balanced whole.
The corners are recessed, resting on scrolled leafy feet in the spirit of stylized acanthus leaves, enriched with ribbon motifs.
One of the particularly interesting features of this piece is its state of preservation and completeness.
It is entirely original, retaining its mahogany parquet flooring and antique mirrors, offering a beautiful homogeneity.
It is made up of its three elements, a configuration that is less frequent today, as these tops are often encountered incomplete.
The silver plating is original, showing slight wear from use, yet retaining a beautiful sheen. The set is in very good condition.
This type of table centerpiece, designed to structure the center of a reception table, was used to highlight pieces of silverware, floral arrangements or decorative elements, while playing with the reflections of light.
Dimensions:
Total length: 103 cm
Width: 36 cm
Center: 55 cm
Sides: 30 cm each
