Lucien Péri (1880-1948) The Mouth Of The Liamone, Corsica. Cardella, Cannicioni, Bach, Corbellini
Size of painting alone out of frame 26.5x41cm
This is a superb post-impressionist composition by Lucien Péri, who paints, as he does 9 times out of 10, his island of heart, Corsica, and more precisely here the mouth of the Liamone. Péri uses his typical broad, powerful brushstrokes and a subtle palette of whites and grays alongside dark greens, yellows, oranges and sublime sky blues. As is often the case, his sky is a true marvel, taking up 3/4 of his composition, as are many of his views of the Liamone. For the rest, he paints the river mouth with its marshes, vegetation and a few pine trees...in short, a real little masterpiece.
