Painting View Of Montmartre Landscape Moulin De La Galette Animated Paris 19ème
Late 19th century oil on canvas presumed view of Moulin de la Galette Montmartre
Small oil on canvas from the late 19th century depicting a mill and low-lying houses in a still rural atmosphere. The subject most likely evokes a presumed view of the Moulin de la Galette, or more broadly of a sector of the Montmartre district, at a time when the hilltop still retained its village aspects and mills. The composition is seductively simple, picturesque and somewhat silent, with its popular architecture, scorched roofs and the small figure in the foreground that discreetly enlivens the scene.
This painting is a welcome addition to the imaginary world of old Montmartre, the one that fascinated painters of the late 19th century. It can be cautiously compared with the world of Montmartre views popularized at the same time, right down to the sensitivity of the motifs chosen: mill, modest housing, terrain still almost country-like, the slightly austere poetry of the Paris periphery of the time. In the spirit of Van Gogh's works of this period.
Good overall condition, in uncovered condition, the gilded wooden frame shows wear and accidents. See photos.
