Wearing a medal of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor, his left arm slightly bent, he pauses in military attire, his waist encircled by a cord, on which the hilt of a saber rests. A precocious pupil of David at 16, Thomas Degeorges worked in Paris then moved to Clermont-Ferrand around 1840. A talented portrait painter, he painted the local and Parisian bourgeoisie.
