Rare pair of baluster-shaped vases on pedestal in lithyaline-imitation marmorated crystal (or agate glass), the body features alternating shades of cobalt blue, emerald green and bituminous, creating a depth effect typical of the chromatic research of the great French crystal makers of the mid-19th century, Neo-Greek-style agate-polished gold decoration on each side, a central medallion features an antique-draped muse (or bacchante) in a choreographed attitude, these figures are framed by a ribboned laurel wreath, the neck and base are highlighted by large friezes of palmettes, grecques and gilded gadroons in relief, the fine execution of the drapery and the quality of the gilding (brush application and agate burnishing) are characteristic of the prestige production of the Saint-Louis manufacture.
