Antique Frieze From A Tabernacle, 17th Century, Italy- H.29,5 Cm

The item is an antique tabernacle door, a piece of sacred art typically crafted from carved and gilded wood.
Main Features
Iconography: The central panel depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus surrounded by a golden halo. This motif is a classic Eucharistic symbol and one of devotion commonly found in sacred furnishings.
Materials and Technique: It is made of carved wood, with a gilded finish, and a dark background on a patinated green surface to highlight the relief.
Structural Elements: On the right side, the remains of the original metal hinges that allowed the door to open are visible, while on the left is the hole for the lock.
Historical Period: 17TH CENTURY. The craftsmanship and style of the sunburst suggest Baroque-era production.
These doors closed the small niche (tabernacle) usually located at the center of the altar, where the consecrated hosts are kept.
