émile Gallé (1846–1904) Parrot Wall Pocket Vase In Polychrome Enameled Faience
A very rare and highly charming parrot-shaped wall pocket vase in polychrome enameled faience, with hand-painted decoration on a slightly pink-tinted white tin-glazed ground.
The piece takes the form of a perched parrot, wings outstretched, rendered with a remarkable sense of movement and vitality.
The entirely hand-painted decoration combines soft blue and pink tones, subtly nuanced and enhanced by delicate detailing in the plumage. The glass eyes bring a striking liveliness to the bird, reinforcing the naturalistic character so characteristic of Gallé’s work.
The central opening allows for the display of a small bouquet, giving the object both a decorative and functional purpose. The original hanging system, still present, confirms its intended use as a wall-mounted piece.
Signed “Gallé Nancy” to the underside.

A true favourite. This piece reveals a lesser-known aspect of Gallé’s production, far from his more widely recognized glassworks.
Yet, it fully embodies his naturalistic sensibility and his fascination with living forms. The dynamic, almost sculptural treatment and the freshness of the decoration give the object a strong presence.
