Earthenware baluster-shaped PICHET with twisted handle, flared throat and foot in white enamel with blue decoration of birds and foliate scrolls. It is fitted with a pewter rim and a lid of the same type with a "ball" handle bearing a scene in slight relief showing a couple accompanied by Cupid and a gallant inscription "FRAU NACHT (-)ES STICHT".
Unidentified WEISSENBURG IN BAYERN master pewterer's stamp inside the lid: small double-headed eagle between the two towers of a castle / I.Z.R.
Height: 28.5 cm.
NUREMBERGE or ANSBACH, circa 1750/60

In perfect condition, free of chips and cracks. A small casting defect is noted at the edge of the lid medallion.
Faience makers had pewter hoops and lids made by master pewterers most often geographically close by, as is the case here.
