Large Tobacconist's Bottle, Westerwald Saltware, Early 19th Century
large bottle, over 6 liters, cylindrical, lathe-made, engraved with rosettes, blue enameled decoration.
This is a tobacco or tea bottle, with a 3-part screw top, including cork-tin stopper.
Under the lid, the merchant noted dates and capacities, engraved or ink, the last of which was 6-1/2 and 1837.
No tin stamp.
Salt stoneware from the famous factory in Westerwald, Rhineland, near Cologne, its stoneware was renowned throughout Northern Europe.
Beautiful condition for this monument weighing 3.7kg empty....
However, I would like to point out a kiln scar, see red arrow: meeting with another sandstone before firing,
Dimensions: 37cm x 19.5cm.
